The Radfem Test

victoria-october:

Howdy! My name is Erin and I’m a trans woman and I’m here to teach YOU (yes you) how to screen your tumblr dashboard for TERF ACTIVITY.

What the Radfem Test will do is provide an easy and quick way to prevent yourself from accidentally reblogging and supporting TERFs and their content. Because a lot of it isn’t obviously transphobic, but has a veiled message of transphobic rhetoric.

STEP 1) Go to your blocked tags list and block the term “radical feminism”. You can also block the phrases “radfem” “TERF safe” and “Radfem safe”.

STEP 2) Whenever a post pops up on your dashboard that was blocked due to these tags, click to see the post, and then go to the OP’s (original poster’s) blog.

STEP 3) Scope out their blog! If their username sounds TERFy (common TERF usernames mention chromosomes, biology, wombyn, womyn, and radfem), you may have a TERF. If their profile mentions being “gender critical” you DEFINITELY have a TERF. If they say they don’t believe in self diagnosis, you’ve got someone who is at the very least TERF adjacent. Be thorough in your checking!

STEP 4) If the OP is a TERF, block them! Keep your dashboard safe for trans people! Be a good ally!

And please, reblog this post! Spread the test far and wide! Help out your trans friends!

I’m loving She-ra season 5 so far, I haven’t finished yet but I needed to get this out of my system, I’m so happy they’re reunited and Catra is learning to be a better person!

Adora really doesn’t want to lose Catra again. Especially after the intimacy formed between them in Prime’s ship. She needs a few seconds and a long sigh before she can say -quickly- that Catra can say goodbye forever to her. She even winches in the end when she says it.

She loves her. But she’s ready to let her go, than to keep her and withstand her unhealthy behavior ever again.

She was patient and gentle with Catra first, but when she saw Catra regressing back to her avoidant, insulting self she said “I’m such an idiot! I thought things would finally be different [between us]” and leaves. She had so much hope that Catra had become the one she knew and loved.

So when she sees that’s not happening, she starts punching and kicking everything in the ship to let her feeling out. The feelings she’s had for Catra buried for so long were coming onto her but then she sees that there’s no future for those feelings because Catra hasn’t changed.

I’m glad that the show indicates that you aren’t obligated to give to people infinite second chances, even if you love them more than life. That it’s not up to you for anyone to change. It must be their own decision if they want to keep you in their lives. And Catra realised this through Adora’s resolve and made sure to actively and consistently change. (She even started working on her anger issues unprompted, without Adora asking her to, and before meeting Perfuma first)

Being jealous or worried about not be someone’s best friend is kinda common in kids (I know by experience) but I think that apart of that metter for Catra it was also that Shadow Weaver told her that her stay there was because of Adora, Catra probably thought that SW said that because she was Adora’s best friend if in some moment Adora didn’t consider her as her best friend SW would can take her to another place and don’t see Adora again.

Idk this jump into my mind but that’s kinda my interpretation.

What she says: I’m fine.

What she means: I understand the Chronicles of Narnia was at its heart a fairytale with theological analogies for children. But why did Lewis never address how they had to adapted to life on Earth again. Why does no one talk about how the Pevensies had to grow up with a kingdom of responsibilities on their shoulders, only to return to Earth and be children. Take Lucy, she was youngest and perhaps she adapted more quickly-but she had the memories and mind of a grown woman in an adolescent body. Edmund literally found himself in Narnia, he went from a selfish boy to mature and experienced man. He found a purpose and identity through his experiences to come back as just Edmund, Peter’s younger brother. Did people wonder why the sullen, sour boy came back, carrying himself like a wisened king? Did his mother wonder why he and Peter suddenly got along so well, why they spent so much time together now? And Susan, the girl of logistics and reason came back with a difference in her. She learned how to be a diplomat and ambassador, Susan the Gentle had to live to endure not-so-gentle circumstances. She had the respect she wanted, only to be just another teen girl. And Peter, he entered the manhood and maturity he so wanted. He earned the responsibility and stripes he yearned for. He learned to command armies and conduct the menial tasks demanded of a king to rule a nation. But he came back, appearing to be just anther glory-hungry boy. Not to mention the PTSD they must have struggled with. Especially Edmund. How often did he wake up in a sweat, screaming a sibling or comrade’s name? His parents believe it’s the war, but it’s an entirely different one he has nightmares about. How often did he have trouble with flashbacks and mood swings? And how many times did he and Peter sit over a newspaper or near the radio listening to reports on the troops. How often did they pour over lost battles and debate better strategies. Did their parents ever wonder why they seemed to understand flight war so well? How long was it before they stopped discussing these things in front of people? Why does no one talk about this???

Why am i fucking crying

Why does no one talk about how the Pevensies had to grow up with a kingdom of responsibilities on their shoulders, only to return to Earth and be children

It’s not addressed because it’s understood. It was the shared experience of the generation. You are describing coming home from World War One, battle wearied and aged beyond belief, but walking around in the body of a youth. C S Lewis went to the front line of the Somme on his nineteenth birthday and went back to complete uni in 1918 after demob.

Not seen it with this very very pertinent addition before

Oh man, all art really is a reflection of the society it comes from, isn’t it?

This certainly is.

On Sixth Anniversary Of Flint Water Crisis, Flint Still Has No Backup Water Source

Flint, MI–On the sixth anniversary of the Flint water crisis, Flint is again in the midst of a crisis.

Six years after the disastrous switch to the Flint River as a source of drinking water for the city, which led to an outbreak of Legionnaire’s Disease and toxic levels of lead leaching into the water, the city remains in violation of the Safe Drinking Water Act for not having a reliable secondary drinking water source.

Mayor Sheldon Neeley sent a stern message to Flint city council Monday to, “finish the job,” referring to the 21-inch diameter, five-and-a-half-mile pipe, that would connect Genesee County’s water system to Flint. The pipe would ensure that should the current system, which pulls Lake Huron water via Detroit, fail, Flint would have a readily available source of water.

As of now, the only backup source the city has are water reservoirs, which would only supply residents with drinkable water for a matter of days. If anything, such as a major line break or any other unpredictable event that could compromise the city’s water, it’s unclear where Flint would go next once the reservoirs run dry. “The results could be catastrophic,” Neeley said.

The city, per federal law, must have a secondary source of water. The proposed project would be paid for by an Obama era bill, the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act. The act authorized $100 million in funding for “Flint, Mich., to recover from the lead contamination in its drinking water system.” According to the EPA, $87 million of that money has not been spent.

The proposed backup system was due to be completed in December of 2019 at a cost of $14.7 million in federal funds. On Monday, the council again voted 4 to 4 delaying construction.  A majority vote of six would be needed from the nine-person council to reconsider the contract before they could revisit the project.

Hydroviv was founded as a response to the Flint water crisis and is providing filters to people who need them, not just in Flint but other cities as well, at cost. Mari’s fund is trying to reach its third goal of $200,000.

Of course, the point of the article is that filters would not be as vital if the local gov would DO THEIR FUCKING JOB, WITH MONEY THEY WERE ALREADY GRANTED.

It’s a fantastic point, but John Boyega’s net worth also puts him at $6 million. When he says eat the rich, he isn’t safe either…

There’s a pretty big fucking difference between six million and one trillion lmao

Not to mention the way the money was made

An actor being paid for a role / doing some advertising is a world away form a man setting up a cooperate money machine that horrendously exploits workers

This is something I hate SO MUCH about how tumblr talks about money.

Like, I get that famous actors have large amounts of money, some of them are even probably overpaid (I have complicated thoughts about how actors are paid because of the nature of acting as a career), but they are exchanging labor for money, and their salaries are an expense involved in making a movie.

But like… an actor is paid for a job. They’re a worker like the rest of us. Bezos isn’t paid for a job, he’s paid for being the person who owns Amazon and despite being obscenely wealthy, he does all sorts of shitty things and to underpay and exploit his workers, and avoid paying taxes, so that more of the money Amazon generates will be profit (worker’s salaries are not profit, they’re a business expense).

These two mechanisms of acquiring money are fundamentally very different.

The reason why billionaires are evil aren’t because having money is bad, its because to get a billion dollars you have to cheat. You have to take it from someone else. If Bezos paid all his workers and suppliers fairly and treated them well, and paid his fair amount of taxes, and etc, then it literally wouldn’t matter how much money he earned, because he wouldn’t be doing anyone any harm. But its not actually possible to amass a billion dollars (a full order of magnitude bigger than a million) while behaving in an ethical manner.

Anna Diop Appreciation Post

Anna has been getting a lot racist comments as of lately. Hell, she posted on her IG story today posting a dm someone sent calling her a monkey. Anyway, I want to show some love to this beautiful, talented black woman who deserves nothing but love and respect.

Anna is what a lot of young dark skin black girls need to see in media. Especially when society has made them feel like their skin color isn’t beautiful. They need someone like Anna to show them that the color of their skin doesn’t make them less beautiful, and they can succeed and achieve their goals like Ms. Anna Diop. Also I’m very happy to see someone in my community playing one of my favorite comic book characters.

To the racists, colorists, and haters? Eat shit 😘

My mother says that fanfiction doesn’t count as reading because “it isn’t nearly as good as the stuff that’s published. You’re not going to find something online that will win a Booker Prize.”
Please reblog if you count fan fiction as reading, or if the fanfiction you’ve read is equally as good as published novels. I want to see the figures.
